Kununurra

Arrived today to a beautiful van park on the lake. Most impressive. Nice sunset.

Rest stop at WA border.

Had a pleasant drive from Katherine with an overnight at Timber Creek. TC was a pretty spot and most unexpected. The drive from K had lots of mesa type formations.

Had a visitor last night. A 2.5 m freshie. He was not worried by us.

The map shows our progress to date including the boat trip and flight back to Darwin.

The last post (for now)

Now we are back home adjusting to normal life.  It was a great trip and we would recommend it to anyone.  We had no problems with the Navara ute and minimal problems with the caravan (some plumbing issues).   Planning the next trips :))

Kimberley Cruise Day 9 15 July 2012

Captain's drinks.

Our last day at sea.  There was a trip ashore to Middle Lagoon but we chose to stay on board and relax.  Saw lots of whales as we approached Broome.  Anchored just off Broome for the night and went ashore after breakfast.

Three visible here.

Group photo.  That's us at the back right.

Kimberley Cruise Day 8 14 July 2012

Ashore at Nares Point.

Some flotsam turned into the NZ bobsled team!  Two of our crew, Steve and Damon.

Buckling in the strata.

After being in pristine wilderness for so long it was a shock to see this.  Koolan Island.

Walking on the reef at Hidden Island.

Giant clam.

Fiesty crab!

Some sort of worm... can't remember.

Puffer fish.

Five stripe worm.

Not happy!

Oceanic Discoverer getting ready to take Xplorer back on board.

BBQ dinner at Silica Beach laid on by the crew.  Beautiful white sand that squeeked when you walked on it.

Kimberley Cruise Day 7 13 July 2012

Great Escape is a charter boat.  Feeling flush?

Having fun in the Zodiac.

Me too!

Unfortunately we had a neap tide... not much difference between high and low.  So we did not get much of a Horizontal Waterfall.  Only about one meter between the water in the lagoon and the sea.

Nice size fish.

The seaplanes land here for the day trippers.

Think this was for oyster farmers in Cyclone Creek

Note how the strata has been deformed.

Kimberley Cruise Day 6 12 July 2012

Montgomery Reef and Raft Point

Montgomery Reef covers about 145 square kilometers and is only visible at low tide. While it is exposed the water cascades off it's surface continually. We were not permitted to walk on the reef due to local cultural issues.

Raft Point was a tough climb to the best rock art I have seen so far.

Coming ashore at Raft Point.

Start of the climb.

At the top.

The reward.

Boab tree.

On the way down.

Kimberly Quest.

Water cascading off the reef.

Jane having a closer look in the Zodiac.

Sea turtle.

See the Egret?

It was a busy day at the reef with lots of other cruise boats.

And a Fisheries boat too!
