The Adelaide River

On the way to Darwin we took a cruise to see the crocs. Mmm would not want to get too close.

Check the little girl with the python. Not for us wimps.

Jabiru

Great place. Very tropical park. Went to East Alligator River area. The area is called Ubirr Nice walking. Lots of rock art. Nice climb to a lookout.

Map shows where we have been so far. Almost as far north as we will go.

Day Two.
We went to another area close to Jabiru. The area is called Nourlangie. We decided to do the walk around Anbangbang billabong but most of the path was closed. But we did see our first crocodile sunning itself on the bank. About 5' long it seemed disinterested with us but we did not provoke it!

Also checked out the Ranger uranium mine close by. Big slag heaps. Big hole in the ground. Nice pond.

What do you bring to a caravan park to entertain your poor jaded children? A jumping castle of course!!

Pine Creek

Another nice little spot. Small van park. Saw our first coconuts.
Ablutions block is rustic!

Off to Jabiru tomorrow.

Mataranka

Nice little place. Nice van park. Lots of space.
Blue faced honeyeaters we are told. They were very bold.
Lots of termite mounds. Big ones too!
Went to the Gunn homestead replica used in the movie We of the Never Never.
Before we left home we were told that one in four vehicles up here are caravans or motorhomes. More like three out of four during the morning migration.
Oh. We saw our first cane toad!

Hand feeding barramundi.  There were snakes in the water too!

Daly Waters

Interesting place and chokkers. The pub is a one off. Heaps of stuff all over the walls and ceiling.

Check the souvenir shop with the remains of a Jet Ranger on the roof.

Tennant Creek

Bit of a mixed bag. Town is reasonably tidy. Some interesting places to explore. Some glaring racial issues

We spent one night at Barkly Homestead. Just a servo and van park with a bar and restaurant. Diesel was almost $2 a litre! In MI it was $1.50.

Had a drama as we went to leave BH. Flat battery! We have our Engel in the back cab. It is plugged into the cig lighter which is always live. Overnight we use a lead to connect to 240v. Seems the lead died so it ran on the car battery all night. I had a booster pack but it was not up to the job. Had to get a jump start.

One photo below of our roadside lunch spot. Somewhere between Camooweal and BH.

Cool today with gusty south winds. Only 22 degrees forecast.

Mount Isa

Arrived before noon after an interesting drive from Cloncurry. Jane says that Cloncurry is best viewed in the rear vision mirror.
All our driving has been on the flat until today. We were surprised that the landscape between C and MI is quite hilly with rocky outcrops. Bit like the Flinders Ranges.

Been very impressed with MI. Nice city.

Tuesday. Had a look at the mine. Very impressive. Lots of dirt being moved. Planning along day tomorrow. Should get to Barkly Homestead CP.

Cloncurry

Bit disappointing. We had been looking forward to getting here but it is a bit bland. Nice van park though.

Richmond

Pretty town. Van park is by the lake. More dinosaurs. These are marine ones.
B doubles are for wimps.
Bougainvillias are beautiful used as street shrubs.
